Wasn't really sure where to put this, and to confirm I'm not a poo troll - admin can confirm that I have been on here for years.

My DD will be starting school in September, and we are trying to increase independence - getting dressed, etc but how do I teach her to wipe her bum after a pop?

Her arms are too short and she can't reach around. When she has tried, she got herself into such a mess.

DS started reception last September, 2 weeks after his 4th birthday so was the youngest in his class. He could no way wipe his own bum.

In the summer before staring, the teacher called to introduce herself, asked about him (was he shy/outgoing, favourite activities etc) and she also asked where he was with using the toilet. At that time we’d just mastered potty training so I was relieved to tell her we were looking good but I said he needed help to wipe.

We’re still working on it now (he’s tiny so his arms are still a touch too short) and I’ve been getting him to do the first wipe or two then finishing for him.

I would say don’t worry too much as there’ll have been very young and small kids in each year before who can’t manage it yet.
