2.5 year old hits himself

My 2.5 year old son punches the side of his head and chin every now and then and it is quite forceful I can almost hear the punch sound - he doesn’t do it out of anger but quite casually for no definite reason I can tell?

he does have delayed speech but has started picking up on words now… has anyone experienced this before ?

I've not experienced that one sorry. My DS did bang his head in frustration but he was younger.

Is he getting any help with his speech delay @Zara84?

@Zara84 I'm going through same situation with my son..he also hits on his head not that hard but it's really heartbreaking for me to see him hurting himself

@Zara84 forgot to say that my DS' hitting stopped once his speech improved.

Yes ds does this when frustrated. It's improved a lot since his communication has improved but still happens very occasionally.
