Pilko Pramette - at what age can you start using the buggy?

My DS is 10 weeks and is now starting to take note of his surroundings.

He is starting to get bored when being pushed around for any length of time, while lying on his back.

At what age can he start going out with the pram converted into the buggy?

I think I started to put ds in the pushchair bit from about 4 months? Maybe nearer 5 - once he was sitting up ok so that he wouldnt flop as there isnt much support?

I converted my pramette when DS was about 18 weeks and craning backwards in his pram to have a look out of the window in the hood!

I think he found walks in the buggy a bit overwhelming the first few times - so much to see! But he's perfectly happy now at 21 weeks.

take him somewhere where trees overhang the paths eg park

or get some rattly toys etc to dangle over him

He can actually use the pushchair from birth, I had one for my DD1 and used it from 2 months old as a pushchair, she HATED looking at me! Just make sure he looks comfortable and is not too upright. He'll be fine! Have fun!

My ds was the same and got very restless in the pram. I got a buggy that reclined which was suitable from birth. I agree with helenelisabeth, just make sure ds is not sat upright til 6 months. Most buggy's do recline a bit though which is fine.

i used it a 4 months, but a friend did from 3 months. it goes pretty flat.

think it could be ok from about the age they could sit up in a bumbo in hindsight.

ds was also very bored lying flat, despite hanging toys etc. I converted it at 3 months, but kept it quite reclined until he could sit up better.

I did from about 5 months, when he could just about sit up. Didn't realise how well it reclined though, would have probably done it earlier if I'd known as he loves being sat up!

Stealth I am the same with DD2, I have a cough bugaboo and have just taken my 5 month old DD out of the carrycot part into the pushchair and she LOVES it! Can't believe I had poor baby lying down bored stiff for so long. She was craning her neck trying to look out. So much more fun going for walks now.

cough as in "embarrassed" - not too popular on MN the good old bugaboo.

DS was 4 months when we converted it but he was a very big boy and his feet were practically hanging out the end by then. I would wait longer if I were you as they really need to be flat as long as possible. Also I really missed being able to gaze at him as we walked along once he faced forwards

I used to have a pramette and you can use it in the pushchair setting from birth as long as you put it at its most flat position, which is, IIRC, pretty darn flat.
