drink additives causing hyper activity?

My son is very sensitive to even a sniff of an e number, but I've never been able to pin down exactly what it is that sends him so hyper, loud, fidgety, and silly. When he is bad, he is like it for days.
I cook most food myself, but he does have squash at lunch. I have stopped that now too, and he drinks orange and apple juice and water. Is there a specific ingredient in squash (and other foods) that could be worse than others? I have read that E211 - Sodium benzoate: Preservative causes hyperactivity, but this is not in all squash drinks.

With my son it seemed to be different ingredients in each - the sodium benozoate was DEF a problem for him. Most of them have some additives or very high levels of sugar in and he couldn't cope. Frankly I got bored with trying different brands and experimenting.
I now give him just water or diliuted fruit juice. Helps him enormously

Too much sugar is not good for my hyperactive boy, could that be a cause as well??

Tartrazine (E102) is supposed to be a big culprit. It's a yellow colouring, and in a lot of orange squashes and other orange-coloured stuff, sweets etc.

DD1 is really sensitive to the e numbers and additives and it's a nightmare trying to find things that she likes that doesn't contain any.
Theres a long list not to give children which can cause hyperactivitythey include;

E102, 104, 107, 110, 120, 122, 123, 124, 127, 128, 132, 133, 150, 151, 154, 155, 210, 211, 220, 250, 251, 320, 321.

The manufacturers try and be clever and write the actual name of the additive instead of the e number. It was too long to write out now as I don't have the time at the mo, but let me know if you need it.

It's not just sodium benzoate which is a problem but all the benzoates (e numbers 210, 211, 212, 213, 214, 215, 216, 217, 218, 219). Also v bad for asthmatics.

High Juice squashes don't have benzoates in them usually (check the label to make sure). It has got sugar in , but I prefer to give a little sugar than artificial sweetner.

My ds age 5 is sensitive to certain E-numbers. He goes absolutely manic if he is given any E120 to E129 numbers. These are the red colourings, he's probably a bit sensitive to others but these definitely send him totally over the edge. I found out by eliminating all additives, preservatives for a month then gradually re-introducing (usually as a treat). Just gave him good old plain homemade meals, lots of fruit, proper juices etc. I was surprised at the results, eg Angel Delight is one of his favourites, the list of ingredients looks hideous but has no noticable effect on him. Give him cherryade or cheap ketchup (Heinz is OK) and he acts like a demented physco!!! I now only give him anything I consider bad (but he considers a treat) on a Friday evening or Saturday so that it doesn't affect his behaviour at school. My only problem now is getting DH and both Grandparents to think about what they give him. My Dad gave him hot chocolate with 3 heaped spoonfuls (!?!) of the choc drink, a huge chocolate muffin, then the chocolate bar he had bought as a treat. Then asked me "what was wrong with him and wasn't he getting enough physical exercise" when I collected him? It took him a good few hours to calm down!!!!!

My ds became hyper and it seams to be orange/ tropical flavour juices. Started getting him the morrisons high juice in summer fruits and was fine. Flavours arent the usual ones but they do a no added sugar variety aswell. HTH
