Baby rarely smiles

Hi everyone, DS is seven weeks old and, around 10 days ago, I think he started smiling. However, since then I think I've only seen two or three more smiles. Has this happened to anyone else, where their LO starts smiling only to do it so infrequently? I thought once babies started smiling it would happen consistently and would be interested in hearing from other people. Thanks very much!

By baby didn’t smile at all until 8 weeks and they were very much ‘blink and you’ve missed it’ type smiles. He didn’t start smiling with any degree of regularity until he was about 16 weeks, and he’s been an increasingly smiley baby ever since. He smiles all the time now at 13 months.

I know it’s a worry but- honestly- they are SO ridiculously tiny at eight weeks still, they can’t see properly and they barely have a clue what’s going on! Your baby will change so quickly.

There are so many tiny things you can worry about when it comes to your baby and you’re very early days still- try to relax as much as possible when it comes to what your baby is doing, or how they compare to others.

Thanks for that, @scott2609 - and for your advice 😊
