dd 8 months been told today shes 2 months behind, is this a big gap?

she as lots of problems and i knew she was behind but i feel like ive been kicked by a horse over this! i didnt think it was much but told it is as shes only 8 months is this right?

What exactly is she not doing that your HV (I presume?) thinks she should be doing?

who told you this? There is huge variations with developement in first few years. What aspects worry you?

unless she's very udnerdeveloped then I uspect she could yet be within "normal" range. Was she premature ? What did HV propse, is she being referred ?

not not hv her physio, in her moverment, we know shes not but i think she may catch up

They only use these as an average. some babies will be ahead, some behind. I wouldn't worry, it's too early for them to assuma anything.

trace I think you're still in the watching/waiting time which is really really hard. It's hard to tell what it means, she may suddenly shoot forwards. Perhaps ask on SN or ttr as well- there may be someone with experience.

yurt1 i am a regular on sn borad but i thought i would put under development bit!

my cousins little boy has epilepsy he is 2.5 and wasnt able to do things as quick as other babies poor muscle tone etc

now at 2.5 like any other toddler running around you would nevr have known he was just slower at reaching milestones

yet you have chldren who do things in there own time when they are ready and appear to be behind but they are ok

yeah I know trace, I just wonder whether you'll get more specific help there. It is a such a worrying time when you're watching and waiting to see what happens.

If she is being closely monitored then obviously there is some worry about her development.

Don't make yourself sick with worry about what the "norm" is. Easier said than done, but I think you have to concentrate on the progress she makes, rather than on the comparison to other children her age.

You never know with children, as Bubblagirl says, sometimes they just need a bit more time.

When I was paranoid about ds3 - I set myself targets- so 'if he's not doing x by date such and such' then I'll worry then in the meantime I kid of did my best to forget about it.

Do you go to mother and baby groups? If they make you feel bad don't feel like you 'should' go. When we became aware of ds1's developmental delays I'd go, then come home and sob until I decided that was ridiculous and stopped going.

no i dont , we always at hospital or some where eles to see or shers having sezures or postures but i have been meeting a few mums on here, and yes it did sting, when i knew she could not do same shes very weak to

How fantastic trace2 that despite her difficulties she has developed to be only 2 months behind! She sounds like a little fighter, and with such a caring mum who's helping her get the help she needs to get over future obstacles I'm sure you'll both be fine! As someone else said earlier maybe it would help to focus on what she can do and celebrate her achievements. Enjoy her!

(And I really don't mean that all to sound trite - sorry if it does!)

dilbertina thank you, my dh always says yes but look what she can do, and shes a very happy smiley baby, who makes everyones day when she smiles at them

My DD missed every physical milestone by miles...rolling, crawling, walking, teeth...really behind. Did not roll until 9 months, no teeth until 15 months, was almost referred to paediatrician 3 times...

She is now 4, completely ok, very bright and happy sings away to herself, boundless energy...don't worry!
