not a book, but if you google for verbal dyspraxia/nancy kaufman or look on here www.speechteach.co.uk/ you'll probably find useful info on this issue.

Hello bubblagirl,
Like your ds my ds had delayed speech.I wasn't happy that i was asked to wait for an appt till he was three so i pushed for one earlier. They saw him a couple of times and said he was just very self consious when he spoke which is really odd as he is a really confident little boy in every other way.So we are due to see them in a few months time again.
I bought these dvd's and they really helped.

He is 3 in June and his speech has just clicked. He is chatting 19 to the dozen. It's a great relief as we worried ourselves silly.
It's so hard not to worry but i'm sure it will happen and when he is ready.Did you know Winston Churchill didn't say a word till he was 4!

I'm sure all of a sudden he will just start chatting away.He is saving it all up to impress you!
Do you worry about it?
I know i was terrible and have only stopped the last few weeks.

hairtwiddler · 11/02/2008 19:26

does this help?

bubblagirl · 11/02/2008 19:36

i always worry about it i see how much he tries and just doesnt seem to get there

but i've also seen how far he has come from my first worries and it's along way

still along way to go but i just want it to all be ok so i dont need to worry anymore and he wont stand out and he can chat with all his friends and me as he wants to
