My 17m old not pointing.

Hello.
Just want some feedback on when your LO started to point.
My son is ever so social, has gestures like clapping, waving, shaking head to no, hi5, bringing objects.
Following commands can be a hit or miss.
He has 60+ words.
Sign language
Walked at 13 m

Things that worry me.:
Spinning around
Hand flap
NOT pointing.
I know this sounds all normal, maybe some will just come and judge, I'm just a mom worried about my son, and worries me the not pointing.
Any feedback or any help it's appreciated.

Is he close to 18 months yet @gceceelia

I think I'd wait until he's 18 months then ask your HV to do an ASQ development check and do this SLT progress checker yourself.

Don't do those yet though as he's not 18 months old and you'll just be setting him up for failure.

@PritiPatelsMaker that's been done yesterday by a developmental person that's been coming to the house and only communication was in Grey because of the pointing. She said to look at it as a whole instead of worrying for just not pointing... I just can't shake it off, a lot of anxiety here.

Was it the ASQ they did? Do you know what age one they did?

gceceelia · 03/03/2023 19:06

ASQ and they did the 18m all white but the communication was grey because of the pointing and the social emotional scored 40 in the white section even with the no pointing.
I just really want him to point... idk why he is not doing it, when everything else is on track.

I really wouldn't worry. He's not 18 months and they don't seem to be concerned do they?

Nelly44 · 03/03/2023 21:45

Try not to worry if he knows some sign language and 60 words he probably doesn't need to point. The pointing is to communicate what they've seen or what they want but your LO can communicate it in a different way.

Hi.
Just wanted to tell you he is doing fine.
He has more than 400 words now probably more I just don't keep track of them anymore, he turned 2 , 2 days ago.
The pointing didn't come til he was 21 months.... before that he wasn't pointing not even with his whole hand... NOTHING !!! Now he points at everything. Very smart boy. People from the developmental.program said he didn't feel the need to point because he has always had words and always could express his needs. But did I ever freaked out.
I did several exercises.
Bought a light switch to help separate the finger.
Bought the poke a dot book
Poking bubbles.
Modeling
Offering 2 things for him to point.
And more.
But that didn't work at all.
21m he was doing it on its own.

Thank you for your reply! Did he spin with his eyes to the corner ? My LO does this and I’m worried - but he is pointing and has good non verbal communication !

gceceelia · 28/12/2023 14:36

If you have whatsapp we can chat. My little one just spinned but never with his eyes looking to the corners.
