21 month old having long tantrums often

I wanted some advice of what’s normal (within reason) for tantrums for a 21 month old.

my son has had around 3 today, two were ten minutes and the last has been 45 mins and counting…

I’m not sure if this is excessive and I am just concerned, he is so angry and won’t let me hold him and pushes me away.

don’t worry, I know kids have meltdowns and tantrums as part of development! But what’s a normal amount and should I be concerned about the length of some… we’ve been up to an hour at times.

any tips of how to deal with it too?

he’s obviously worse when teething and unwell to, but won’t let me comfort.

Quite normal for 2 years!!
One of our DC had loads every day for months.
In those days (90s) we just distracted or ignored.
He grew out of them after a while.
If it helps, he’s now a wonderful Dad of a toddler who also has tantrums, as completely expected!!

@DemelzaandRoss its exhausting haha!

Today he had a full blown meltdown at naptime because I wouldn’t let him nap in my bed haha.

he was fine 30 seconds after I put him in my cot, but sounded absolutely hysterical before.

maybe some development going on, because they have ramped up last few days haha!

everything’s a phase 😅

OP, yes it is exhausting….. sending you a handhold.
The trouble is, Parenthood just keeps evolving & other issues will always crop up.
Remember all toddler parents will be going through challenging times, not always tantrums but bedtime, feeding etc. Sometimes all at once!
As an ‘Old Timer’ I would say just get through this time as best as you can. Your DP will probably tell you that once you are a parent you always worry about your DC. The toddler who had constant tantrums in our family has the most amazing emotional intelligence now. Don’t despair… all will be well.
