I need help! my 10 month old DS has never been a great sleeper, despite my best efforts, but had started to mostly sleep through. But recently he has started waking 4-5 times a night, when i go to him he is standing in his cot screaming, I lay him back down and he puts his thumb in and goes to sleep. Waking sometimes after 10 mins sometimes an hour or 2. he doesn't want feeding, its almost like he stood up and then doesn't know what to do, is it just a phase, or am I doomed to no sleep forever! (sorry about being a drama queen, but exhausted) Am 3month preg and just soooo tired. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Hi there,
My son is now 3, but i remember very well what you are saying.
I just want to assure you that it is only a phase and it will pass. My son started sleeping at 15 months, till then I was always exhausted.
In my opinion the best you can do when you go to him is to try to be as passive and quiet as you can, using only the light from the hall and if possible reassure him by making a "shhhhhh" noise rather than talking.
Good luck. It has happened to mostly all of us, although many mothers don't talk about it.

Happened to us too. In the end we settled him up to 3 times a night, subtly made sure he was ok - not too hot/cold / teething, drink etc, then after that we would go in, settle him then come out. leave him for up to 10 mins then go back settle, come out etc. For us I think he just got into a habit of waking and us going in did not help. afer a week or so he did settle for longer periods, requiring less intervention to settle. so we were happy enough with that. He never was the best sleeper. ds 2 is a great sleeper. I think you are either going to have a good one or not. If not then I think its just a case of muddling thorugh the best you can doing whatever suits you as a family. good luck.
