Almost 4yo chewing everything

Hi, I'm hoping someone can offer some insight.

My almost 4yo DS has always had a habit of chewing. He used to eat cardboard a lot but seems to have grown out of that. He's now chewing his clothing and constantly has a rash around his mouth from being exposed to so much saliva. He also dribbles a lot and has always been full of snot.

He recently had tonsillitis and a chest infection but with ABs has been much better but still the chewing continues. I can't see any new teeth and we can't get into the dentist until next month.

He used to have a dummy but kicked the habit about 6 months ago but the behaviour has continued.

What else can I do? He's happy in himself and doesn't seem to be in any pain. Preschool haven't raised any concerns but do mention the chewing from time to time. Do I leave it and hope it goes away?

Have you tried Chewellery? Basically chewable jewellery aimed at kids who have a sensory need to chew.

Both of mine did this one more than the other but they did grow out of it

I was about to ask the same question but discovered your thread. Our 4 year old DS has starting to chew constantly at his sleeves or anything nearby. When asked he says his mouth hurts at the back but hes eating and brushing his teeth ok. No advice from me I'm afraid but know that you arent alone with this.
