When they get to big for the cot basically - about 3 mths, more if they are tiny.

Put the moses basket in the cot for a couple of nights to ease the transition.

Hi, official advice is to keep them in with you for at least 6 months see here
That's what I'm planning for my ds (currently 4mo), even though he's a really loud snorer!
Do you have space for his cot in your room?

We're a week into cot sleeping - so far so good. Moved DD at 17 weeks as she just looked so squished. Few difficulties first couple of nights, but it's okay now! We're lucky in that we have room for the cot in our room though. Been hard for me though, up until last week she was in the living room before we went to bed

hi! we put dd in cot in own room at 9 weeks because she'd outgrown moses basket. she settled straight away and slept so much better, as did we! took a while for me to stop getting up several times a night jsut to check!!!

Not speaking from personal experience, as my DS refused to sleep in his moses basket, but my BF's DS did - as Niecie said - she stronly recommends putting the moses basket in the cot for a couple of weeks before transferring so that LO is in a familiar environment. As regards time - when the basket is too small is the only guide I've ever heard / seen.

We were lucky enough to be given a crib - a mini cot - that we had in our room until he was six months - at which point he went into his own room. (There's nothing like listening to both DS and DH trumping and snoring to convince you its time for one of them to go!!!!)

No i dont have room for the cot in our room.
I really dont wont to go to 6 months.
I would like to start putting him upstairs during the day to sleep, but dont wont him to be in our room so i dont disturb him when pottering about.

Why don't you want to go to six months?

Jojay · 08/02/2008 20:46

I used to have ds in the Moses basket in with us at night, but he had his daytime naps in the cot.

It meant that when we changed from moses basket to cot, he was used to it already, so no problems.

I moved him out of our room at 4 months

I did the same as Leifmum - dd went in her cot at 9 weeks, after I kept finding her rolled over with her face pressed against the side of her carry cot . I was terrified she would suffocate herself.

Psychomum5 · 08/02/2008 20:59

when they crawl out of the moses basket into your bed in the middle of the night cos they want you and you are not waking up!!!

otherwise at about 4mths!

(BTW......DD3 never grew out of hers as whe was tiny and poorly so I kept her in it for ease of use and it being next to me......she crawled out which was THE biggest hint that she was ready for the cot!!!)
