I have a 3 year old who never asks for help and I wondered if anyone else has experienced the same?
For instance, if he wants a drink he would never say ‘mummy can I have a drink?’, he will say ‘I need a drink’, get up, go into the kitchen and start getting the cup out of the cupboard.
if he wants a light on/off, he’ll just get his step and do it, if he wants a bath, he’ll say ‘I need a bath now’ and go upstairs.
He does ask questions, but they’re things like ‘where is my blue car?’ and then he’ll go off and look for it himself. He doesn’t really ask questions about abstract things, only things that are in front of him or in recent memory.
This is very different to my older son who was constantly asking me for things/to do stuff at the same age.
His speech was a bit delayed, but it’s come on a lot in the last few months.
He does go to preschool and they have said noticed the same thing.
I have tried to get him to say things like ‘mummy can I have a drink?’ when he wants one, but I don’t think he understands what I’m asking him to do.
is this something that I should worry about? Or maybe it’s just something that will change as he gets bigger?
