10 month old not responding to name

Hi,

my 10 month old doesn’t respond to his name at all. We’ve never used any nicknames and always talk to him using his name. At the 9 month check the HV said to wait until 12 months but it’s been a month and there’s no progress.

i will say his name when I’m right next to him and he doesn’t look at me, I then say it again and still the same. Even tapping his arm while saying it doesn’t help.

he also doesn’t babble words together such as “mama and dada”

Has anybody else had a little one that doesn’t respond to their name around this time?

You need to get a hearing test. If your HV won't refer try the GP.

Hey have you any update on your son

My son is now 15 months and responds to his name about 80% of the time. The only times he doesn’t is when he’s watching a program in tv which he finds interesting or concentrating on building blocks. I would say his development is slow but getting there and he’s starting to talk

Brilliant, being a mummy is hard work lol

Hey my little girl is 10 months and is the exact same, can I ask how your little boy is getting on now?

Emmaeloiseee · 15/11/2023 18:38

He’s 19 months now and responds to his name most of the time, only time he doesn’t is when he’s watching something that interests him on tv

he babbles a lot on jargon and can say about 17 words

@ShannonLouiseX how does your LO fair on this progress checker?

ShannonLouiseX · 15/11/2023 20:34

Not very well

ShannonLouiseX · 15/11/2023 20:35

When did he learn his name?

Ok so if it said "you answered no to some important questions" you can book a free call with one of their SLTs or you could fill in the 10 month Ages & Stages and ask your HV to score it and refer LO for a hearing test Flowers

Mine was always on and off with his name and some days would turn around after a few calls, other times not at all. Hearing test he passed & I remember the health visitor coming around at 17 months and he was still on and off. It’s only at 18 months that it’s become more consistent.

id say that if you have other concerns such as lack of eye contact, no response to any sound or noise (my son wouldn’t respond to his name but when I say “look” he would) then a call to the health visitor to maybe review?

I agree but if the progress checker I posted has raised some concerns, her LO needs to be seen by a HV anyway Wink
