20 month old waking for hours at night

20 month old DS woke up at 1.30. It's nearly 5am, still hasn't gone the fuck back to sleep, despite the fact he's knackered. I have to get up at 6am and do a full days work. I've had 2 hours sleep. This has been going on the whole of this week, and has happened every Sunday night for weeks. I feel like screaming. Don't know what the point of this post was really, venting I think. Is 20 month sleep regression a thing??

Gosh that sounds difficult.

Can you tell us a bit more about what his days are like for sleep, food and activity?

What have you tried when he wakes?

He normally naps for about 2 hours during the day, around 10-11ish, depending what time he got up. We usually go out at least once a day, usually in the morning. He is a bit sniffly atm so is a bit off his food. He won't eat much for breakfast or lunch but usually makes up for it at dinner, which is about 6pm. He has a bath and goes to bed about 8-9pm.
I try everything when he wakes up... singing, white noise, shhh patting, you name it. Eventually I'll give up and he gets out of bed, I just wait until he tires himself out

He's awake a long time in the afternoon, could he be overtired? Have you tried pushing his nap till after lunch?

Yeah it's possible. On Sunday he did nap later though, I think about 12.30. But then he didn't sleep quite as long as usual. I may try and give him his nap later and see if that makes any difference
