Oppositional defiant disorder (heeeelllllppp!)

I'm wondering if anyone has experience of helping their teenager with ODD. DC13 hasn't been diagnosed, but ticks all the boxes: incredibly argumentative, point blank refusal to cooperate with the most basic rules, ingeniously sneaky, frequently falling out with friends etc.

DC was diagnosed with ADHD last year, and is on medication which seems to be helping with schoolwork. It feels relevant to say that DC is also "gender non conforming" (had been since a very young age) and describes themself as trans. This is relevant as puberty is kicking off, and DC's anxiety levels are presumably through the roof (I say presumably as it's impossible to have any sort of meaningful conversation about any of this).

We have a review next week with CAMHS and I'm going to raise the question of ODD, but recognise that the support/treatment is primarily parenting strategies. I feel like we're already doing "all the right things" (or at least most of the time... Certainly not perfect!), so I feel kind of despairing about it all!

Anyway, I'd welcome any advice or recommendations of books etc.

Barnardos do amazing parenting courses for ND children. You can self refer - I highly recommend

Thank you! I've just googled, and that does sounds like it might be a good option for us. 🤞
