Here's a good one for you from my GP this morning at DS3's 8 month development check......

checked his hips blah blah. Asked if he was standing/weight bearing. I told him he was a little bit - but still very wobbly - and not really keen to try.

He stood DS3 up (who of course then stood as straight and still as a soldier ) and turned round and told me that "he'll be walking in no more than a month"

I looked shocked and he told me "he's weight bearing really well, he just needs encouragement to pull himself to standing and he'll be off"

Needless to say I left the Dr.s biting my lip as I was ready to burst into laughter (I was 15 minute late for the appointment so didn't deem it appropriate to laugh while in the room).

DS3 (just turned 8 months) still isn't fabulous at sitting up - maximum is about 30 seconds before he throws himself backwards. Isn't crawling yet (yes I know crawling/walking isn't really linked) and physically/mobility speaking is WAY behind where DS2 was at the same age. DS2 walked at 10 months..........and my GP reckons DS3 will be off at 9............yeah right!!

who knows?

My friends baby was walking at 10 months - it was wholly un-nerving...

oh I know DS2 walking at 10 months was a MASSIVE shock to the system (DS1 wasn't really "mobile" in any shape or form until he was nearly one and didn't walk until he was 18 months).

But there's no WAY that DS3 is going to be walking at a younger age than DS2 did.

By the time DS2 was 8 months old he'd been crawling very competently for a month, had already figured out how to crawl upstairs and was actively trying to pull himself to standing.......DS3 isn't doing any of that stuff and if he's walking in just one months time I'll eat my hat

My DS could bear almost all his weight on his legs at 2 days old. Was pushing himself up to standing as soon as his feet could reach the floor straddling one of my legs (i.e. really early though I do have fat legs!)

He walked at 15 months.

Your GP does sound full of himself - I'm guessing no-one goes back to tell him he's wrong. You could try making an appointment to see him in a month to tell him you're "worried DS isn't walking yet" (why isn't there an evil grin emoticon?)

hehe I love that idea Mrsg

of course you know that I'm now going to be proved horribly wrong and I'll come back from Edinburgh the end of the month screaming on here "HELP MY 9 month old is walking and he's out of control"

Another early weight bearer here who waited till 14m/o to walk indepentantly. was toddling a bit with a hand from 12. Just plain standing he could do at 6.
He'll do it when he does it and not before.

DD walked at 9 months. My MIL kept telling me not to let her. How?

FAQ · 04/02/2008 20:31

I know - not at all worried (in fact given my experience of DS2 walking at 10 months the longer he waits the better )
