My 9yo son has recently expressed an interest in chess. We bought him a chess board for Christmas so he can play at home, and my OH regularly plays with him. I've also discovered that there is a chess club at school which he partakes in.
Today, I asked him how his first day back was and he said really good. When I asked him who he played with at lunch time he said that he didn't play with anyone, and stayed in to play chess with his teacher. We've had this a few times.
I'm worried that he's struggling with friendships. I am an overthinker and worrier.
Am I wrong to worry? I have asked him if he is having issues with friendships which he's told me he isn't. I just don't want him to miss out on playing with friends but at the same time, he might just be happy to play by himself or stay in and play chess with the teacher?
