I am currently 37 weeks pregnant with baby boy no.2. I have a 5 and a half year old boy, who 70% of the time is a very good boy. He seems to act up a lot when me and my partner are together, as opposed to when it's just one on one.

When he's grumpy or not getting his own way, he takes it out on me over anyone else. Just this evening he's pretty much pushed me out of our family movie night by making rude comments to me 'why is mummy here, why does mummy get to sit there, I don't want mummy there' etc. I've kept my calm and rather than rise to it (knowing kids his age can behave this way without any true feelings behind it) I've left the room to have my own quiet time, so not to get stressed out and add more stress to the situation.

Have I done the right thing? He's since said 'sorry mummy' and I have said that's fine thank you for saying sorry, you go and watch your film. I feel like I need the time to cool down and reflect, so I don't react in a stressful manner.

Difficult isn't it but I think I would have abandon the film rather than left myself. He's pushing your boundaries and needs to know that he can't he that rude to you.
