My ds of 9 months eats absolutly everything on his sunday dinner he ll eat carrots potatoes sprouts broccli swead etc mostly mashed up with a few bitties left but no matter what i do he wont eat his peas!! i didnt think there was a lot of flavour to them and my mum thinks its cos peas have a sort of shell on them. i was just wondering if anyone else had this prob with peas lol or is it that he just doesnt like them? im not too worried cos he eats everything else, but my DP wont eat anything other than potatoes, i dont want my ds when he s older saying "but daddy doesnt have it" . my dp has tried it all and will eat veg in home made soup as long as you blend it down YUCK its the texture of it in his mouth he doesnt like, not the flavour, so im trying to make sure ds eats all his veg! but dont understand why he wont eat peas they re really small not much flavour etc!! i cant even hide them in his food cos he stores them in his cheeks like a hampster them spits them out when he s finished his food!!!

any advice please???

so what's the problem - the fact that your nine month old ds won't eat peas, ot the fact that your dp is fussy with veg?

don't worry about your ds not eating peas, it sounds like his diet is very good.

posieflump · 04/02/2008 09:15

don't worry about it
try again every few weeks but it is not a big deal

igglepiggles · 04/02/2008 09:16

i dunno i think my thread ended up with 2 probs lol he has got a really god diet and eats every thing else! prob me being a fussy mum!! i was just wondering if any one knows or have had a 9 month old who wont eat peas!!

Erm not sure it's a huge problem really.

Could just be the texture he doesn't like.
For what it's worth my ds was a fab eater and ate anything you put in front of him, thought great I've cracked it - He's 2 now and a total PITA when it comes to food. So how id now doesn't mean he'll be the same in the future.

belgo · 04/02/2008 09:17

I honestly can't remember if my children ate peas at this stage. if that's the only thing you are worried about with his diet, then you are doing very well

posieflump · 04/02/2008 09:19

my 16 month old has so far refused sweetcorn , peas, grapes and apple
Honestly it doesn't matter
She eats plenty of other veg (not much fruit) but she is perfectly fine

posieflump · 04/02/2008 09:19

also kids this age have a huge tendency to put peas up their noses so you can avoid the nightmare of that!!!

IdrisTheDragon · 04/02/2008 09:20

I don't eat peas.

I am OK, honestly (although DH does always put a few on my plate....)

ArrietyClock · 04/02/2008 09:21

Give up, at least for the time being. I wouldn't be surprised if your mum is right about the shells. Mine would eat them if they had been put through a mouli so were shell free (don't go there - it's a ridiculous faff and I will never do it again), but not if the shells were still one. Still isn't impressed with the at a year, tbh.

igglepiggles · 04/02/2008 09:21

thanks you all, im not really worried about it i was just curious as to whether its one of his phases or if its a one of those phases lol.

as for my DP i think its all in his mind lol i tried force feeding him a carrot last week and there was murders over it lol

Have you thought that maybe he simply doesn't like peas??

muppetgirl · 04/02/2008 09:23

Put peas on his plate, if he eats them great, if he doesn't calmly take them away and offer again at a different time. Don't make a big deal, don't comment. It might take a while but he'll get there!

If you eat peas he will see that someone in his family does. We have this with eggs. Dh doesn't eat them (unless in something) so I have scrambled, fried, boiled etc in front of ds 1 so he sees this as normal. We just explain some poeple have different likes/dislikes.

Mercy · 04/02/2008 09:23

Exactly Soupdragon. My brother is in his late 30s and still doesn't eat peas.

muppetgirl · 04/02/2008 09:24

My husband doesn't eat mushrooms 'spawn of the devil' apparently

belgo · 04/02/2008 09:24

I don't eat brussels sprouts

muppetgirl · 04/02/2008 09:26

My brother used to hide the brussel sprouts in his pockets and flush them down the loo

posieflump · 04/02/2008 09:26

my dh hates peas with apassion
it is the only thing he doesn't eat

igglepiggles · 04/02/2008 09:28

I didn't actually eat green beans until I was in my 30's because I couldn't stand the texture. I still can't eat raw mushrooms.
If you so desperatly want him to eat peas, try mushy peas or even processed where the skin has been boiled to death.

SoupDragon · 04/02/2008 09:33

As a child I used to scoop my peas into the music store of the piano stool...

igglepiggles · 04/02/2008 09:38

yeah i ve tried all sorts so he prob just dont like them, he s really funny if he see one tho, he pulls such a funny face as if to say "you bring that pea near me and i can promise you a sleepless night" lol
and discoverlife i cant believe you wont eat raw mushrooms theyre delicious!!! mmmm

iggle, so what if he doesnt eat his peas, he eats a good balanced dinner, so well done for that - keep it up I bet one day, he will decide he likes peas, and hates carrots!

Had to post though: There is a book called "Eat your Peas", it is good for about 18m onwards i guess. But it is SOOO funny, its all about a little girl who doesn't like peas. DD and i always have the "eat your peas" game when there are peas. I just hope she doesnt really think that i am going to buy her: 100 Ice creams , two new bikes, an elephant, two penguins, her very own rocket with double retro laser blammers, move to disney land, 17 sweet shops, africa and A NEW FLUFFY PENCIL CASE!

sorry, getting carried away.

Oh AND, Tesco do a baby tablewear range, its called "give pease a chance"!! Thats pretty cool too

igglepiggles · 04/02/2008 10:18

cheers lucy ellen mum that book sounds so funny!!!!

im off shopping now spending loads of monry lol i wish but i ll speak to you all later

luvz you all x x

My weird DD used to eat frozen peas - by the handful!

Do you have a few square feet of earth and a little bit of time to sow some peas? It's a lot of fun and they are easy to grow (they need staking though to allow them to climb). I ask because fresh garden peas in the pod were irresistible to my children, hardly any ever made it into the saucepan because they enjoyed splitting the pods and eating the peas (probably especially if I said 'please! not ALL the peas! save some for me to cook'

discoverlife · 04/02/2008 10:31

Its the texture, they actually 'squeal' on my teeth. I assume that they taste great as I love them cooked (the fibres have broken down), but I can't actually close my teeth on them , its like an oral version of finger nails on a blackboard.
