My ds of 9 months eats absolutly everything on his sunday dinner he ll eat carrots potatoes sprouts broccli swead etc mostly mashed up with a few bitties left but no matter what i do he wont eat his peas!! i didnt think there was a lot of flavour to them and my mum thinks its cos peas have a sort of shell on them. i was just wondering if anyone else had this prob with peas lol or is it that he just doesnt like them? im not too worried cos he eats everything else, but my DP wont eat anything other than potatoes, i dont want my ds when he s older saying "but daddy doesnt have it" . my dp has tried it all and will eat veg in home made soup as long as you blend it down YUCK its the texture of it in his mouth he doesnt like, not the flavour, so im trying to make sure ds eats all his veg! but dont understand why he wont eat peas they re really small not much flavour etc!! i cant even hide them in his food cos he stores them in his cheeks like a hampster them spits them out when he s finished his food!!!

any advice please???

I love to eat frozen peas straight from the freezer - lovely and crunchy, and now I have introduced 18 mo DS to the delights... nice and cool on teething gums I would imagine (for him, not me )

igglepiggles · 04/02/2008 13:50

lol maybe i ll have to try it!!! or maybe not lol im not that adventerous my ds absolutly loves fish!!?? he cant get enough of it! but me and my DP cant stand the smell even! my dad was having tea the other night on his lap, scampi and chips and the baby rushed up to him so quick in his walker, we didnt have time to catch him before he snatched a piece of scampi of my dads plate and went to eat it the lil bugger lol we took it off him cos it was hot but he did have it when it cooled down!! i ve warned my dad to make sure he has food on the table from now on cos if we're up my parents with the baby his fish wont be safe lol

Discoverlife, me too! I swallow them whole as I can't stand the way they feel when I chew them. Strangely enough I don't mind mushy peas from the chip shop...

igglepiggles · 04/02/2008 18:36

omg i cant believe that u cant chew a pea!!! i ve never heard that before!!

Stop giving him peas then. Or put them on his plate where he can see them to pick them up if he wants them.

gegs73 · 04/02/2008 18:47

I hate peas too! I actually had a very strange hissy fit in the summer as I ordered fish and chips from a pub and mushy peas were on my plate. I got my MIL to scrape them off with a tissue . I don't know what came over me and I was instantly ashamed . I think it is a hang over from school days when the dinner ladies made me eat them.

As long as your LO eats other veggies/fruit I wouldn't worry. It is true that they often go off everything when they reach two. Sounds like your ds is doing fine.

igglepiggles · 04/02/2008 18:48

colditz im not forcing them down his throat you know. i was just wondering if it was a phase that most 9month olds go thru or if it was just soething he doesnt like, he s got a varied diet and a good apetite thats why i ve posted this, if he can eat sprouts i couldnt see the texture of a pea being a problem, so i didnt know whether it was just too small for him to chew or just the taste. if you ve read all the posts then you ll know that im not force feeding him. i was just curious.

Some of my kids eat peas. Others don't. As long as he is eating healthily in general i don't think there's anything wrong in letting him off peas.... most adults have food they don't like and wouldn't eat unless forced to out of politeness - babies are too small to worry about being polite!

igglepiggles · 04/02/2008 18:53

hey gegs73 i was quite fussy as a child i ate all fruit and veg untill i was about 10/11 then i totally went off everything and would have just potatoes meat and yorkie pud on my plate and wud have NO GRAVY. since being pregnant i cant get enough veg, i could sit and eat a whole bowl of sprouts!! not that i did or do mind but given half the chance and i would!!!

Does he eat everything else you give him - haven't read rest of thread. If so - what's the prob?

I can't keep track of which of mine likes what. One of mine hates peas, one hates baked beans, I dish it out, they eat the bits they like - no biggy.

igglepiggles · 04/02/2008 19:04

yeah he eats everything else, i was just wondering if it was a phase or summing i dont force em down him i was just wondering.
just thought it funny sprouts but not peas lol!! he must be just like me and being fussy lol

my dd (4) used to eat peas and now doesnt - I think its the skins she doesnt like. She is the same with sweetcorn which again has a skin. DS (15 months) has a good go at everything but has his likes and dislikes.

discoverlife · 04/02/2008 19:26

Its not peas I can't eat, its raw mushrooms.

igglepiggles · 04/02/2008 19:32

I don't recall posting "OMG StOP SHOVING THEM DOWN HIS THROAT U EVAL BITCH!"

I thought I had just suggested that if watching him spit them out is upsetting you, that you stop giving him peas - but maybe I had a mil psychotic episode and really did post the above. It's been known.

igglepiggles · 04/02/2008 19:44

no colditz im sorry im just a touchy cow lol cos im 19 a "young" mum i hate advice lol i always take it as "your to young to know wat your doing blah dee blah" !!!

my dd used to have peas in shepherds pie, she would take a big mouthful and surely enough the peaas in that mouthful would all be rolled back out as round as they went in. She hated them . now aged 6 she loves them

LadyVictorianSqualor · 04/02/2008 19:47

DD wont eat peas, but she will eat baby peas i.e. petit pois, now for some reason every pea in our house is a baby pea, she falls for it anyway.

igglepiggles · 04/02/2008 19:47

thats wat elwyn does!! (my ds) he is like a hamster he stores them in his cheeks then then after finishing his food he ll spit them out lol the cheeky lil bugger

colditz · 04/02/2008 19:48

No worries, I know what it is like when everyone thinks they know better. No offense taken at all.
