Are all two year olds this easily frustrated?

OK, so my little boy, love him so much, is just two. He gets so frustrated so easily and always has. I remember when he was 9 months old, there was this peekaboo toy - you press a thing, a bird pops out, super cute. He used to scream at that thing every time because he couldn't get the bird out of the toy. The bird isn't meant to come completely out!

Now he's two, if his breakfast isn't served immediately he screams (and no, I do not move faster for the screaming), if he can't get a toy from his basket he screams, if he closes a door and then the door is closed, he screams.

And to be clear, it's an aaagghh of frustration, then it stops - he'll get distracted or accept it and move on, it's rarely a full blown tantrum. His language is a little behind his peers, but he's got lots of words, he's just not stringing them together to communicate yet. He can communicate single words, more, water, orange, banana, cocomelon etc and sometimes where daddy, where mummy etc

Is it normal?

It does sound like it's within the normal range.

However, it could be his communication making him frustrated. Have a read of this progress checker, just to make sure he's on track Wink

Hi,

Thank you, that was really useful. We were aware he was behind and the hv came to see us and he's had hearing checks. The questionnaire from the hv suggests he's catching up but the link you sent has highlighted a few areas he's still behind (which we thought was the case, but really good to understand the specifics).

He's got lots of words, he's just not great at communicating. We've got an appointment in January so we can follow up then 😊
