MChat - how accurate is it??

Hi everyone, just wanted to pose a question about the Mchat as most threads on here seem to redirect people to this screening tool. Is it wholly accurate? I have used it to 'assess' DS and he scores pretty low (I don't think he follows my gaze very well if I look at something though has no problems with following pointing, he also doesn't seem to reliably look at me when confronted with something new or scary so have had to mark against him there etc), however my son is potentially quite sensory-seeking rather than avoidant and the mchat really does seem to be geared towards sensory-avoidance. Maybe I'm wrong on that though? I'm rambling now, anyone there with thoughts or experiences? X

I know that it's not wholly accurate. Perhaps if you've got some concerns you could post in the SN Section. There are some very helpful MNers in there Wink

@PritiPatelsMaker thanks for your reply. Have seen your name a few times on these threads, you're a very kind, helpful poster! Just the general sen thread or sen children?? I did contemplate posting there but when I glanced on the topics it seemed to be mostly for practical issues (schooling, EHCPs etc) relating to already-diagnosed Sen children, wasn't sure if it was appropriate! Thank you Blush

I'd honestly post in the one that looks the busiest. Abs it's absolutely fine to ask any questions relating to SEN Wink
