Worried about 8 months speech

Hi,

I am really worried about my babys speech development and I am hoping for some reassurance please.

My baby has just turned 8 months old and she isn't going ba ba ba or anything yet and making noises i would call babbling. She is not a quiet baby and loudly says ahhhh ahhhh ahh ahh over and over along with ahla and aha. She has also just began shouting ga when she is angry! And I think I may have heard a b in her noises.

I am really worried that her speech isn't developing as it should.

I have terrible health anxiety and am receiving help for this.

Thanks

She's 8 months, honestly, far too early to worry xx

Thanks bookworm and thanks for responding.

Would you say she is doing okay?

thanks

Sorry missed this reply, it sounds totally normal OP. My child was delayed speaking but we only began to worry at about two and a half. He's almost four now and completely caught up. Please enjoy your 8 month old and don't worry about things like this for quite some time! Xx

My nearly 9 month old DD is similar OP, no Ba sounds and mostly vowel sounds at 8 /8.5 months. Usually Aahh. However the other day she started to say Da and Ma both in the same week. I wouldn’t worry as 8 months is still early and lots can change over the next couple of months.

ForeverTired89 · 18/12/2022 21:54

8 months is very early. My DD didn’t do ‘ba’ sound until just after her 1st birthday. Now at 2.5 she doesn’t stop talking.

I’ve just posted about this myself! My 8.5 mo doesn’t babble, he used to at 3/4 months but now nothing. Just more mmmms and various noises but no bababa gagaga type thing and im so worried!!

Anony1988 · 09/01/2023 11:09

Mine was the same at 3/4 months. She can say ga and ba as I randomly hear her do it and she shouts it when she's angry and crying but just doesn't do the bababa and gagaga.

I have heard her say a quite a few consonants but not in a babbling kind of way.

She imitates little sounds and noises when I say them back to her and has started to clap and wave.

That all sounds great! Still trying to get mine to clap and wave!

just find it so strange that he used to do it so well but now nothing like that! I have health anxiety too, used to be just me but now it’s the baby too and it’s even worse 😭😭 I feel like I’m spiralling atm!

CherryBomb87 · 09/01/2023 20:15

Oh op! Sounds tough, babies definitely give you plenty to fuel your anxiety. My first babbled late, started talking late and now won't stop telling me about ol' Donald and his animals (at two). I worry so much less about my second, because only now can I see they generally all make it to the same place developmentally at some point 🤷

Your little one sounds fine x

Betania

Health anxiety is really tough and generally just exhausting. I spend most if my day worrying about something.

Your little one has plenty if time to clap and wave!

Thanks cherrybomb87, it really is one big battle in the mind for me. I have pretty bad post natal depression and life is really hard.

I'm so sorry to hear that, my husband struggles with depression and anxiety and I know that alone can be exhausting, let alone adding a baby into the mix.

I'm still learning but what I'm figuring out is that babies and toddlers are surprisingly resilient, they cope pretty well whether we're at or best or our worst.

Big hugs x

Betania · 11/01/2023 08:09

I’m exactly the same! There’s never not a worry! But feels even harder when it’s your baby you’re worrying about 😭

I feel like I’ve never sang/chatted/babbled so much in the last few days ha to try and get him to copy me!

I found this post on Reddit which made me feel a bit better too someone else’s baby similar age also used to babble at 3/4 months and hasn’t started again yet - hope this eases worries for you for a little bit at least!

Thanks betania for posting those reddit posts they are really interesting.

When my little one was about 4 months she was constantly ah ah ahhhing really loud with some constants thrown in Like she was taking part of the convo and she doesn't seem to do it now although she has just started imitating "aha" when I say it.

thanks cherrybomb87,The level of exhaustion from pnd, ocd and anxiety is completely overwhelming.

My little one isn't sleeping well either, she wakes up over and over in the night which is exhausting.
