My LO is 9 Months and for as long as I can remember he twirls his wrists and feet when he gets excited about something- his dinner when sat in his high chair, his toys, his favourite tv show, when he sees me or his daddy. His whole body gets excited and his little eyes go wide with excitement and his hands start twirling, I always thought it was just something he did to show his excitement but I just want to know is do any other babies do this or have done this and it's normal as with it being my first baby I am not sure what is normal development and behaviour in babies

It isn't anything I'd be concerned about @mwilliams33 Wink

Hi, sorry this thread is a month old but my DS 8 months does this. I think it's cute, my mum says I used to do it as a baby to. Did the HV say anything regarding it? My DS opens his mouth wide and goes "oh" when he twirls his hands with excitement.

mwilliams33 · 17/01/2023 20:25

@Cantbelievethis1 she said they go through phases and also they just have little quirks sometimes. But he has drastically reduced the amount he does it now. Are you concerned about it? X

@mwilliams33 Hey
i could have wrote your post myself. My son is 9 months and does this ALOT. In high chair, car seat, when excited but also when frustrated. It gets in the way of so much and really worries me. Sometimes he flaps hands up and down too and has also started to move head like NO NO NO but does it quite often.
how’s your little one now with the hands and feet? Do they have any other quirks about them like my son

x

mwilliams33 · 24/01/2023 21:09

@Danielle1989x my boy has definitely reduced the amount he does it but he still does it and also does the other things you mentioned but I am not worried about them as the ‘flapping’ he does when you say to him clap hands (which he can also do) it’s just his way of doing it at the moment and he doesn’t shake his head very much. Does your boy do them all a lot? Have you spoken to your HV or doctor? I have just moved to a new area so will probably mention it to mine when we have our introduction visit next week xx

@mwilliams33
see some days I feel it can reduce. Then over days in like why so much.
the hand flapping some days he won’t do it at all. But I’d say the past two days his done it more :-(
my son learnt to clap his hands quite young. He did it for a month and now he won’t do it. That’s worried me!!!
he does say no no no on queue everytime I ask but for some reason he just does it in his own aswell and it’s not a brief head shake. He can shake side to side a good few times
does your son do the head shake? Or just No no no when you ask?
my sons just learning to crawl. Can be a bit lazy but he can do it.

I’m over analysing him so much but his my 3rd and SO different to my girls I’m mega worried about autism.
is there any other things your son does?

I’ve spoke to HV. Doctor and private Doctor. All said too young but I can’t help but be so worried and feel like I’m just being ignored
my son also sticks his tongue out when excited too!

Danielle1989x · 24/01/2023 21:38

@mwilliams33 whats your sons temperament like?
my son is VERY needy. Cries when I leave the room. Gets irritated quite quick. His breast fed too!
He can be really moany.
he also has food allergies

@mwilliams33 @Danielle1989x hey, how are your little ones getting on now? I have all of these worries currently with my 7 month old. I'm a FTM!

mwilliams33 · 22/06/2024 20:27

@flowerlover1990 my little boy is nearly 2 and a half now and doesn’t do it it all ☺️ I think they’re just little quirks which they grow out of, then they’ll pick up another one 😂 hope you’re ok - it’s hard being a first time mama but I’m sure you’re doing an amazing job xx

Thank you so much for replying. I'm so glad your little boy is all ok ☺️ really reassuring it could just be a little quirk 😅 This first year as a first time mum is a rollercoaster isn't it x

mwilliams33 · 22/06/2024 20:32

@flowerlover1990 it is indeed! I wish I hadn’t worried so much and just enjoyed him but it’s easier said than done xx
