Maybe it’s normal behaviour and just me but I find it really difficult getting my son to follow simple instructions. Mainly things like getting dressed for bed to put his pyjamas on or uniform on school or brushing his teeth. I have to ask over and over again and it makes morning times and bed times very stressful. He gets easily distracted and ignores what he doesn’t want to hear. Any ideas?

Is it getting any easier? This must be very frustrating for you? Have you tried a rewards system if he does it promptly without fuss?

Hi,

I know this might sound strange a technique I was taught was...

If you want them to do something and listen then touch them, put your arm round them or hold their hand. Just something small why you ask them.

Weird I know but it works for me most the time.

I think its normal behaviour at this age as hormones start to change and develop.

No idea what we are going to do when they are teenagers 🙈

Totally feel this, we are constantly asking 8YO to do something like get dressed and it takes multiple asks, even then it's slow and he can take anything from 10-20 minutes to simply change his trousers! Yesterday I asked him 4 times to pick his dirty clothes off the floor and put in the wash basket 😳
