Hi,

My son used to make sounds such as “ahh” & “ooo” and coo a lot but for about a month the only sound that’s come from him has been a “mmmmmm” sound. I’ve read that babbling is expected around this age? The “mmmmmm” sound only starts when he’s upset or wants picking up etc it’s not all the time. Whenever he’s playing or I’m talking to him he’s quiet. He does have bumps on his gum where his two bottom teeth are going to be. Is this a phase or should I be worried?

How does your LO do on this simple SLT progress checker @mummyofrb?

Hi!

my son is now 18 months and has about 15 words he knows now. He babbles using jargon and sounds like he’s talking to us in a different language, will point out familiar objects and name them. He’s coming along but slowly. He’s getting there. Firstly there was the “mmmmmmm” sound then he was late to babble. Babbling happened in the 13th month and at 17 months followed jargon. Naming familiar objects started at 17 months too. He did get his teeth late as well and still only has 5 teeth at 18months.
