14 month old speech and hearing worries

my DS2 is 14 months. He was saying 3-4 words previously such as mama dada hiya and waving.
the past 2 months he has stopped doing all of this and barely babbles.

he has also had a string of back to back viruses and the nursery keep telling me he’s constantly pulling at his ears. I go to the GP who says he doesn’t have any ear infections.

he has been walking since his 1st birthday but some days he is all over the place and really off balance… almost looks like he’s drunk and can be quite clumsy.

HV has referred to audiology for glue ear check. Can this cause speech delay?

I am worried as my eldest has ASD so I’m really heightened to the fact DS2 has stopped speaking as that was one of the early signs with DS1.

any advice?

Yes, it can definitely cause speech delay and there are plenty of MNers who come on these threads who have LOs with speech delay due to glue ear. The NDCS have some good information on glue ear heree* and you can join them for free if your child does have this.

As your DC1 does have ASD, has the HV suggested waiting until 16 months and then doing the MChat Test? Don't whatever you do, do the test before they are that age though, it will just give you a false result Flowers
