Nappies 3 year old

I'm worried about my son. He is 3 and a half and refuses to use the toilet. He still has to wear nappies. He knows what the toilet is for but refuses to use it.
When I tell him he needs to go to the toilet he kicks off saying "no I don't want to!"
I've tried stickers etc but he's not bothered he would rather carry on with what he's doing rather than go to the toilet. I'm scared I'll never get him out of nappies. I tried putting underpants on but he soaked them obviously but still refused the toilet. Has anyone else had this?

How is he apart from that @Lou867?

Is his speech and language on track? If he goes to childcare, what have they said about the potty training and how he copes there in the day?

He was under speech and language but now he is fine with his speech
He knows he has to go to the toilet but tells me afterwards.
If I say let's go to the toilet he simply wants do it

Meaning he won't do it. He would rather carry on with what he's doing rather than go to the toilet.
I tried underpants but they were soaked within 2 hours. He told me (I waited to see his reaction) then he said I'm wet but still not wanting to go to the toilet

Can you persuade him that you'll let him have a nappy on when he needs to go only but he has to sit on the potty, with the nappy on? That can often take the stress out of the situation.

Does he go to childcare?

Hi yes he does. He goes to school nursery on a morning then 3 afternoons a week to a private nursery.
Thanks for the advice I'll give it a try. He is really stubborn I'm also having issues with nursery ashe won't do as he's told.

What have Nursery said @Lou867? Have you spoken to their SENCO?
