My 3 year old got whacked in soft play

Took my 3 year old DS to soft play today. There was a up to threes area and the rest was quite massive, for kids up to age 10. He quickly got bored in the toddler bit.

Another kid rocks up in an iron man costume, he looked 5 or 6. My DS starts trying to play with him doing some Spider-Man impressions and this kid just punches my DS in the head (hard) and runs off. I see the whole thing so I'm able to comfort my son immediately and tell him to stay away from that boy etc. I couldn't tell who Iron Man's parents were. DS was fine, went back to playing but later at bedtime asked me to talk to him about it several times.

Anyway. I'm now laying awake feeling really bad and stupid for taking him to big soft play on half term. I feel like i really let him down and caused him to have a negative experience.

How do other people deal with things like this happening?

You aren't stupid.

I would definitely tell staff next time as that is so upsetting.

We probably all ha similar stories but it doesn't make it ok.

Hope your DS is ok

You’re not stupid! Soft play is like this unfortunately. Very common to see unruly older kids in the toddler section and their parents not keeping tabs on them. Next time you see an older kid in the toddler section, I’d get a member of staff or speak directly to parents (if you see them). I have seen this done multiple times, soft play staff usually very used to it. Sorry that happened to your LO!
