Toddler interests - at what point does it become a concern?

DS (22 months) loved tractors, which is really cute, but I have started to worry a bit that it’s become an obsession. It’s becoming hard to engage him in other toys - took him to a toddler group this morning and he found a toy tractor in my bag and just wanted to play with that. He did engage when I took it off him (not in a horrible way, obviously, just a ‘would you like to play with it later?’)

He loves books but if we’re reading a book that features a tractor like On the Farm he won’t read It - just endlessly keeps turning the page back to where the tractor is. He used to enjoy Mr Tumble and In the Night Garden but he won’t watch them now, he only wants Tractor Ted which is on Amazon prime.

I’m sick of tractors 😂 but what I am wondering is how normal is it? I think I may have been similar with horses when I was little and I think I’m normal(ish) so just hoping to get some reassurance?

My 4 year old when he was that age was obsessed with a particular sensory ball; it was pink and had long nobbles on it, my dad used to joke it looked like a large model of a virus! My son took it everywhere, it even got tucked up into bed with him. After a few months, novelty of this ball wore off and something else became a favourite. Even now he will quite happily play with magnetic shapes all day long. I wouldn’t worry, completely normal.

My son is obsessed with letters and numbers and barely plays with anything else. His current TV obsession is Numberblocks! I think it's cute and not a problem.

@Spicycurry I know this is a super old post but my little boy is the same with farmers! Won't watch anything else, only goes to the page on books where the farmer is, wakes up saying farmer!

It's driving me mad but just concerned is it a little unusual - did your little boy grow out of it in the end?

I really wouldn't get too bogged down with notions of what is and what is not 'normal' 🙄

@Crazycatlady79 I don't think it's a case of getting bogged down with 'normal'. I was asking for advice on OPs situation as it's similar to mine and I take an interest in my kids welfare 🤷🏼‍♀️

Not sure why you thought I was addressing you directly? 🤔
I was responding to the OP.
