Good morning All
my son had his 2 year development check yesterday at health centre and it was a disaster !! It was his nap time and he just threw a fit crying for his nan who looks after him while I’m at work the health visitor said she couldn’t do the assessment and would rearrange

i then got a message saying she was coming to our home in less than a fortnight he is going through a faze where he doesn’t like to speak to people he doesn’t know so I just know it will be a disaster again

she suggested getting him in a nursery 1 day a week which we was going to try and do get him mixing bit she has not given that a chance as only yesterday

I was going to call and say we don’t want a home visit and want to give him a bit of time but when I google it said this will define result in social services visit this is getting worse !!! He is just a little boy that going threw a shy faze any help would be great

I'd guess she's wanting to do a home visit so that he'll be in a familiar environment, and so more relaxed and more likely to show what he can do. I'd go ahead with it (reschedule if they've suggested nap time), and don't worry about him being shy – he won't be the first shy toddler they've seen. I'm not sure DD1 said anything to the health visitor when she had hers, certainly not much, but she spoke to me, and the health visitor assessed her communication based on that, plus what I told her.

The nursery recommendation is probably separate to doing the two year check, just because he's at an age where it's good for him to have regular interaction with other children, whether that's nursery, toddler groups, or whatever, not linked to any specific development concerns. Are you concerned about his development at all, that you want to give him more time, or is it just the not speaking to people thing?
