6 y/o son developing new tic

Hi everyone,

my 6 year old son has recently developed a tic where he takes a deep breathe and stretches out his bottom teeth 3 weeks ago. There’s been days I’ve thought it was going but today it is relentless and I feel so helpless. It’s every ten seconds today sometimes straight after each other.

he knows what triggered it which was a sleepover with his besty who can be quite loud and energetic. (I think he might be on the spectrum waiting for referral) basically he just couldn’t get away from the over stimulation and it has triggered a tic. He even told me this was why it started.

I’ve spoken to doctor who said they do often appear at 6 and usually just fade out on their own around age 9. I’m basically just looking for some reassurance and someone to tell me some good stories and that it’s not that bad etc. I’m just so worried about him I feel like I struggle to be around him when it’s bad because I feel so helpless and I can’t even mention it or say are you okay as it makes it worse.

any help is very welcome, thank you!

hi Caity
I'm sorry that no one replied to your post sooner.
I'm afraid I haven't got any helpful tips. i just wanted to let you know you're not alone! I've been experiencing the same with my son whose tics have waxed and waned over a period of nearly three years now (he's 8 in a few months).
how are things with your son now?
I really struggle with my anxiety about the tics.
