22 month old not talking

My 22 month old is not yet talking. He understands commands, says the odd word but not in any order. Have got him assessed and he has been referred to speech and language (ruled out for obvious signs of autism)
Just wondering if anyone has any tips that may help me get him on the right track as it's becoming more and more a worry

Hiya, wanted to bump this for you. My little one sounds very similar, albeit a bit younger. I have read that as long as the understanding (receptive language) is there then the words (expressive language) will come. I have seen the Hanen 'Two to Talk' book recommended here many times over so I bought this and whilst it's obviously very good I haven't seen that much progress. I feel like the child has to want to speak, iyswim, but I think stuff is going in so I just talk to my little one constantly. I think at this point that's all you can do. Talk, talk, talk. If your little one labels something you can try the +1 technique? I have had ASD concerns too, when you say you have had your son assessed, can I ask where/by whom? My GP has referred us to SLT tho I expect it'll be a very long wait - any other type of assessment wasn't offered/suggested X
