Baby squeezing eyes closed a lot

My baby is 7 months old and around a week ago started to squeeze his eyes closed tight a few times at a time but multiple times a day, he is teething on his top teeth but didn't seem to do this on his bottom teeth, seems to be getting more and more also, im not sure what triggers it, maybe tiredness, maybe pain from teeth but I'm just wondering if anyone else went through this with their baby and how it went? Thankyou

Hi OP,
I was so pleased to see your message because I was googling for exactly the same problem!
My seven month old has started doing exactly this, towards the middle to end of some of his meal times.
He squeezes his eyes so tightly shut for a few seconds each time. Today at lunch time he did this repeatedly about 10 times or more.
I was really concerned that it was a swallow issue.
I have become so worried that I called the HV, she was completely unconcerned. I then called my GP who was equally reassuring.
I have seen a few Mums on various forums posting that their babies are doing this around this age - 10 months. The general consensus is that it is teething / had enough to eat / just suddenly found this function and are using it!
If you find time, please post back any update as to whether it has continued with your baby and any advice you have had?

Hi, my baby just turned 8 months 2 days ago and seems to be doing it less already, sometimes he would do it like 20 times in a row and then stop, I have an idea that it might be something he does when he is tired/teething or both, I used to let him watch a little tv but have now cut that out completely in case that was causing it but he still did it but a lot less. I posted on a different group and a few people commented back saying that they worked in a nursery and saw a few children doing this too, and unless they are in pain or crying inconsolably then don't worry about it. So I decided to give it a month and see if he stops completely then if not go get it checked out because it seemed like a lot of mothers babies were doing it at the same age and then stopped eventually, maybe just a phase? A development thing, not sure but when it totally stops I will message again and let you know

Thank you so much for posting back on here OP. I’m so pleased to hear that your little one has stopped doing this now, hopefully the same will happen here!
Have a lovely weekend.
