Toilet training

Hi, I have looked through some topics but can't seem to find anything that relates to what I'm wanting to ask!

My son is 3.5 years has been toilet trained since he was 2.5 has always done really well with it. Around 2/3 months ago he started pooing himself everyday sometimes more than once. Even at nursery he is doing it. I have tried everything to encourage him to stop and go on the toilet, using stickers buying new toys, he will do it for a couple of days then go back to pooing himself. I ask him why he does it and he says because he likes it! I've asked him if it hurts when he goes and he says no. Am I doing something wrong? Is it a phase that will pass? Or is it worth talking to a GP?

Any advice or experience would be gratefully received.
