Confident 8year old

My 8 year old boy is very confident when talking to others and is super friendly
when ever we go anywhere he always manages to find other children to play with (he’s an only child) however he seems to enjoy theirs and their families company to me & my husbands.
when we are are zoo’s/beaches/playgrounds etc he will play with the children and would be more than happy to walk with or sit ther other’s children family rather than us. We are more than willing to play with him and if we ask him to stay with us he gets really upset.
it can be quite upsetting as it feels like he doesn’t like our company or want to be with us.

He'll come back to you when he's upset or hurt and needs you. You're his solid base. You've given him that social confidence and it's normal that at 8 he should want other kids' company. Just make sure to check with the parents he's not bothering them - not everyone wants a random 8 yr old tagging along.
