frequent waking

Just wondering if anyone has any advice on a sleeping problem we've been having. My dd (8months)used to sleep through the night really well until about 3 weeks ago when she's started waking around 3 times a night. It's starts by her just chattering away to herself (albeit rather loudly!) and then if I don't go in and give her a dummy she will start getting fractious and eventually start crying. When she's given the dummy she happily drifts back off no problem but this means constant broken nights sleep for me! I've tried not giving her the dummy to get her out of the habit but, as I say, she then gets upset and it seems only the dummy will soothe her back to sleep. Nothing else has changed in her daily routine and she's a very happy content baby all day. Any advice/experience of this gratefully received!

has she cut any teeth yet?

Funny you should say that as she cut two about the same time as when she started waking but then she would be waking up and really crying and need calpol but now it just seems to be habit and without the pain.

My ds, 9 months, did this a little while ago. He started waking because of his teeth and it seemed to become a habit, he would wake up and start talking and playing and I would be waking up in the night and I couldn't go back to sleep until he was. In the end I was so tired I'd fall back to sleep while he was awake, and now he doesn't wake up anymore! Leaving them is not something I'd particularly recommend but I was just so tired and it seems to have broken his habit of waking up. Of course if I knew there was something wrong or his teeth hurt I'd get up and I could also tell by his cry and what he was doing IYSWIM.
