Difficulties with oldest DS

Hoping to get some advice on how to deal with my oldest son at the moment, I’m struggling.

background: two sons 3 and 5, separated from their dad almost 3 years ago, me and the boys gave a great relationship with their dad, they see him regularly.

Atm: so for a while my sons behaviours have been hard to manage, although he’s always happily gone up to his room at bed time he has stayed up late looking at his books. Recently he has been coming in to my room and watching me sleeping, crying for his dad, saying he hates his room, doesn’t want to live with me etc.

The past week he has cried incessantly whenever he’s away from his dad. Counting down literally the minutes until he will next see him, asking me to set timers, obsessing over dates, sitting and watching the clock, obsessing over watching videos of his dad, the list goes on.

I’ve tried distracting, lots of walks and outings, crafty activities in the house. I’ve reassured and given as much love as I possibly can, but nothing seems to be improving the situation. Is there anything else I can do?

Just to clarify his dad works shifts and he works a lot so it wouldn’t be possible for him to live with his dad and I would never separate the boys, so that’s really not an option.

I haven't got any experience of separation. Hopefully though this will bump for you Flowers
