Delayed Development/Autism

Hi

So up until now I haven't been concerned about my 28 month old. Her speech was slow but she says numbers, colours, mummy, daddy, water, and animals as well as shower and over odd words - mainly all these words have came in the last six weeks. She's very smiley, ALWAYS happy, cuddly with everyone, not scared of new people, makes eye contact with me, walks flat footed, not bothered by change of environment or textures or food or sounds and very rarely has tantrums (and gentle ones at that) but I went to nursery review the other day and they have marked her as severe for eye contact, social skills and speech and are requesting an official assessment of her. And since then when I've told people they've told me they (multiple) suspect she's on the spectrum because she doesn't pay attention to other children and is very active and likes to run around (in an environment where she's allowed, not like a restaurant etc). The only red flag I personally had was she doesn't always respond to her name.

Has anyone had a child like the above who had gone on to have a development delay but not autism, and had these issues catch up?

I'm worried for her but I don't feel I can talk to anyone as I'm being batted back by anyone I try to talk to about it and feeling quite low and alone.

Not in our case. There were a few signs like speech delay but it was me who raised ASD and it wasn't until we hit the teenage years that anyone would listen.

I'd accept the assessment. You can ask in the SN a section about what that entails and if she doesn't, then that's ok too.

Much better to have an assessment whilst its being offered though and if she does have ASD to get that diagnosis before she starts school Flowers

Hi, thanks so much for answering. May I ask how your child is doing? Do they have friends and relationships? If that isn't too a personal question xxx
