Hi all I would really appreciate your advice and experience my 6 week old sleeps A LOT and has done so since he was born. He does wake for feeds, plenty of wet and dirty nappies and has put on weight thank god so all those boxes checked but I still don't understand how he can easily sleep 20+ hours a day with some awake time in the morning and some in the evening.

Has anyone else had a very sleepy but otherwise well baby?

If he's waking for feeds and is bright and alert at times I'd just thank your lucky stars Wink

Yes I’ve had exactly this scrabbledabbl and was worried though baby always had lots of wet nappies and was feeding well despite it . I even measured his sleep one day and he slept around 21 hours. Now he’s 4 months he’s normal and awake much more and for longer. So for us he grew out of it but is still a good sleeper!

Ps ours was incredibly quiet while I was pregnant too and I was worried about it and kept a close eye on it and now I understand why as he must just been asleep so much then too! He’s very alert and happy already now a little bit older

@ChickpeaFlour thanks so much for replying really appreciate it I've been getting so stressed he's 8 weeks now and still the same! When did yours start sleeping less may I ask do you remember the turning point? Yesterday he was only awake for 3 hours in the evening so yes exactly 21 hours!

I can remember exactly as he was already a bit more awake when we went to my parents when he was 3 months but while there for 3 weeks everyone commented at the huge change in him and he started to really wake and join us a lot more. I used to feel sad at how little I could show him and see him as he was simply asleep except for the briefest windows and so few of them!!

he’ll now be awake much of the day and still a dream as happy and naps so well

@ChickpeaFlour thanks so maybe around the 3 month mark I should start to worry if he is still sleeping loads? I have his 8 week check soon so will ask. When he is awake even though it's short periods he's alert thankfully but he is quite unsettled cries a lot

it might be good to mention it to a health visitor anyway especially if he’s unsettled- I mentioned our baby’s sleepiness as they were monitoring an issue with head centiles anyway and I found it reassuring they didn’t seem worried as long as he was putting weight on well and seeming happy etc .

@scrabbledabbl how dud every thing turn out ? Xx

scrabbledabbl · 24/12/2023 15:23

@Lotsofloss hey gosh it was all fine in the end I think I just got stressed over nothing cos I had health anxiety over him following traumatic birth but I think I've accepted now every baby is different. I think we stopped sleeping so much by 12 weeks xx

Ah that’s great. Thanks for replying. My LO is 6 weeks today and sleeeps all the time and if he isn’t sleeping he is feeding or else he is unsettled falls asleep after 5 mins on the boob and feeds constantly! I too think I worry too much over nothing!

scrabbledabbl · 15/01/2024 19:56

@Lotsofloss mine was the exact same but now he doesn't sleep! You will be missing this time honestly!! It's all fine.
