11 mo not gesturing possible ASD?

Hello!
First time mum here! I’m really starting to panic that my son might have some communication delays possible ASD. First off I know ASD is nothing to worry about and it wouldn’t matter to me if he did! I absolutely love my son but can’t help to compare him to other babies in baby group and I’ve run to google about misses milestones (worst mistake I know) and things seem to point to ASD.

DS has always hit his milestones right at the end of the guide lines however at 11 months he does not, babble at all (makes sound and coos and ahhs in excitement), doesn't clap, wave or point to anything. He also is very hit and miss with his name. Everything on google says this is a red flag for ASD (personally I hate that phrase!).

On a positive note, DS can crawl (started at 9 1/2 months), can pull to stand, walks along the furniture. He loves books, can turn pages and follow a point but will not point if asked ‘where’s the elephant etc’. He has good eye contact, notices when you leave or enter a room, and if returning from work he will crawl right up to you and climb up legs to be lifted. DS can also stack blocks (although he never knocks them down bless), he can place objects in a box when asked and get them out,

HV wasnt concerned as his eye contact is good and noticed when she entered the room, he also shifts his focus to whoever was talking. I know I should stop worrying as much now the HV thinks there’s no concerns but I can’t shake the feeling he’s not where he should be! He’s also been referred to audiology due to family history of glue ear so I’m trying not to worry until after that appointment. Has anyone had similar experiences with their little one, and where are they now?
Thanks so much in advance xxxx

I'd wait until you get the results for glue ear before you think of anything else.

Hiring same thing with my son, I have been. Sick
Worried about autism, how is your baby now?

Hello, he’s just started to babble!! Only ‘bbbbbbb’ but it’s something! I’ll let you know any updates after his hearing check in a couple of weeks, HV and nursery aren’t concerned yet as he’s so aware of whose talking and when people enter the room etc plus his eye contact is really good x how’s your baby doing xx

My baby didn’t start babbling until 11 months corrected and now at 16 months corrected has over 10 words. He also didn’t gesture really until 12 months corrected - he then learned to clap, wave and high five all within 2 weeks and has kept on learning new gestures since. So he didn’t ‘follow the books’ exactly but is doing loads in his own time. I was worried like you but now wished I hadn’t been - not all babies do these things at the same time

Ah that’s amazing! Fingers crossed my son is the same, they all do things so differently! Thank you for the message though it’s really reassuring especially as my son has just started to babble at 12 months x
