Anxious about people opinions of my baby - WHY?!

Hi everyone,

I (of course) think my 16 mo is the most amazing baby in the whole world. She’s clever, funny, kind and strong. She doesn’t like to do what she doesn’t want to do, and why should she? I want her to grow knowing she makes her own decisions regarding hugs, affection etc. Basically, we’ve raised her to known she’s not a toy to be passed about, if she isn’t sure about someone, she knows she can take her time and space to get settled.

So yesterday, we went somewhere we haven’t yet and saw someone she hasn’t since she was 6 months, so naturally, she was apprehensive. What bothers me, is she is often compared to this persons child, who as a toddler was stubborn and had lots of tantrums (the child is wonderful now! And was extremely cute then, just strong willed). I don’t know why this makes me anxious? I find myself going over the events of yesterday, thinking was my DD struggling emotionally, did she have difficult moments. She had a few moans but no tantrums or anything. She kicked her legs in frustration a couple of times but that in itself, doesn’t faze me.

My question is, does anyone else become really insecure and anxious about people opinions of their children? I think it’s more worrying that my parenting is being judged. I just can’t shake this feeling and I don’t know why!
