My DS has always been a lovely natured, kind and thoughtful boy but since turning 8 his personality has dramatically changed.
One minute he is fine the next minute he explodes into anger, tantrums, crying, slamming doors, punching his hand, kicking and throwing things. When he's calmed down he's fine. He also goes through stages of being upset and anxious, feeling sick and worrying.
He is only like this at home. At school his behaviour is exemplary and he has a secure group of friends and is thriving and very bright. He does sometimes get anxious and feels sick before school but is usually fine after a chat and reassurance.
Nothing has changed with regards to home life and me and DH provide him with lots of love and attention. I speak to him regularly, reassure him and comfort him. I've also told him it's OK to feel upset and angry and helped him with ways to deal with it. He seems to listen and takes things on board but the next time something upsets him he flys off the handle and has mega tantrums. I feel like I'm at my witts end recently. I've tried talking, telling him off, sending him to his room, taking rewards away. Has anyone got any advice please or can relate?
