Concerns regarding 4 month old development.

Hi all!

I have always been a silent reader & do have to admit I think I’m struggling with PND.I have a beautiful 4 month +1 week baby boy &
I have had concerns from when my baby was 4 weeks old that he has some kind of neurological disorder or that he was literally going to die. I do need to get help for it, but I’m constantly googling/obsessing over his development and always put my issues to the side.

Some of the issues that concern me are below:

1- doesn’t roll or move much at all. At 3 months old he rolled from tummy to back a few times but has stopped doing it.

2- doesn’t babble constants however he is very vocal such as “ ahhh, ehhh , oooo, cooo , gooo ) etc etc ( he does this a few times a day, I’m worried it’s not constant enough).

3- does not make eye contact when held or sitting in lap or on his tummy. However has great eye contact when on his back. This really concerns me however I have consulted my GP and they advised that he is interested in his surroundings.

4- has a little bit of a flat head but GP is not concerned and advised it will correct itself.

5- he is quite fussy some days & some days he is content.

Positives:

1 - Smiles alot and at faces ( especially caregivers)

2 - Giggles at a lot of things ( sometimes peakaboo)

3- grasps & holds objects

4- Mouths Objects

5- swings at dangling toys.

6- makes vocal sounds ( ahhh, ohhh , ehh , eee) however no constants.

7- screeches & kind of yells
7- turns to sound ( most of the time)

8- Does make eye contact when engaging such as if I’m tickling him, talking to him however has to be laid on his back.

9 - tracks objects very well. Follows everyone around the room.

10- fed well since he was a newborn

11- have started feeding him solids and he loves pretty much all flavours.

Am I overreacting? Does anyone else have a 4 month old and can reassure that my worries are not warranted?

What you've described there @Adiralios123 is normal baby behaviour Flowers

Could you talk to the Pandas Foundation and book an appointment with your GP today?

Your baby sounds very normal for a 4 month old! Just an FYI babbling consonants does not happen until 6-9 months - I’ve rarely heard a 16 week old baby do it. I’d try to stop looking up milestones for a while and I hope your GP can help you

@AfterGlow87 oh wow. I did not know constants are within that timeframe. To be honest with you, he has started to do some of the things I listed as worrying eg now making eye contact In different positions.

I'm in contact with my GP regarding my health anxiety. Hopefully I can stop and just enjoy him as I know I will regret this later on!

Hey! My boy is 11 months old now. His eye contact has improved dramatically, he claps, sometimes waves & is starting to point. He is mostly a very happy boy, smiles, laughs etc.

His gross motor skills were all the later end, however dr said there was nothing concerning . He didn't roll until 9 months & just started crawling the other day. I'm saying that he developed fine motor skills really early, so who knows he could've been focusing on that skill.

He babbles all day long - and this didn't start until 6.5 months old.

Some days I have concerns and honestly I put it down to my constant anxiety.

Trust me I was a complete mess from 4-7months, constantly worrying about his development and so far, I would say he is developing on schedule.

Please don't waste your time worrying, Googling , posting on here, because it makes things worse.

Enjoy your baby! I wish I did.

@Adiralios123 thank you a thousand times for answering!!! You helped ease my constant worry which I had for the past 1.5 months. It was like I was constantly suffocating , I read and read…analysing his every movement and everything. You and one other lady who had very similar experience eased my mind greatly. Her baby is now 14-15 months and is doing great ! Says 5-6 words, clapping, waving, playing! I wish you all the very best !
