Baby dd2 is 8 months next week.I weighed her yesterday (on a professional set of scales at the local library) and she was 15 pounds 7.She only hit the 15 pound mark end of May.From what i can work out she is on 25th centile. She is on solids but its hit and miss how much she will eat, and she only eats fruit purees (she isn't really eating finger foods yet but likes handling them) Milk wise she is breastfed, on demand, and feeds well as far as i can tell. She will take a couple of oz tops of formula but doesn't really like it and wants to be breastfed after. She has regular wet and dirty nappies, and seems generally a content and placid baby.So wasn't too concerned until I looked in DD1's red book and realised that she weighed what DD2 does at FOUR months (half the age!) She was on the 75th centile. Now I'm abit worried thinking I might need to contact the health visitor about it on Monday. :-/

Someone has to be on the lower centiles – that's how they work, so the 25th centile is (usually) just as healthy and normal as the 75th centile. What centile was DD2 on at birth and at her early weight checks? If she's generally been roughly that centile, then she's 'following her line', and nothing to worry about. If she was, say, 75th centile early on and has now dropped to the 25th, then yes, I'd be getting in touch with the health visitor.

Being on the 25th centile isn't a concern as long as she's tracking her centiles. Which one was she born on @Mummyof287?

Mummyof287 · 18/06/2022 22:33

Thanks for your replies- She was born around the 75th then dropped down to the 50th by about 9wks.She has then gradually dropped from there to the 25th since.x

Ok so if she's dropped that far, has she been checked properly for Tongue Tie?

I'd get that ruled out. Having said that though if she's gaining weight and is bright and alert at times, it might just be a natural weight for her. My DD did a similar drip and has stayed slim, she's in her teens now and has remained on the lower centile all the way through.

If you are worried though you could ring one of the BFing Helplines and talk it through with a BFC.

How might I increase my baby's weight gain might be useful as well Flowers

Yes, with that drop I’d get in touch with the health visitor for a few extra checks. It may well just be her settling to her natural line, but best to be sure. DD1 was monitored for a little bit (a slightly smaller drop than your daughter, but by an earlier age), but then stayed nicely on her new line, so all fine in the end. We’re now following the same pattern with DD2, although she also has reflux to contend with, so I’m glad they’re keeping an eye.

Thankyou both very much! She was checked for tongue tie at about 3mths and nothing significant was found.
I rung the health visitors yesterday, they said they aren't overly concerned with her weight but would like to cone and visit to offer some support around her eating, so hopefully will be in touch soon.
Hope your little one's reflux gets better soon @skkyelark
