Hi, I posted on here a while ago around concerns about my sons development ( he will be 2 on Saturday). I’m looking for a bit of advice/reassurance.
he has always been a slow developer at everything, late Walker (20 months) but physio said he is hypermobile but has just recently signed him off as he has now caught up with his peers and running about as normal. Still issues with using a crayon as his fingers are extra bendy but the physio isnt concerned as he has progressed so much since she saw him last.
two things concern me 1. that he has no words except mama which dosent use in context and 2. that sometimes he walks on his tip toes when he is excited and he sometimes does have sensory seeking behaviours like biting/chewing or touching soft things (very occasionally though) and certainly not excessive. These are the only concerns, my health visitor and physio wasn’t concerned as during an hour appointment today he only walked on his tip toes once when he was excited over a toy and she said that if there was an issue he would be doing it more often in the whole session she had with him.
on the other hand he seems to be developing on track, these are the things he does do-
he babbles a lot
verbalises when communicating
plays with toys appropriately
holds his toys or anything of interest up to show me
points to things in books when asked
Points to request
Points to share interest especially when we’re out in new places and always looks at me to make sure I’m looking at what he is pointing at
brings me books to read or toys to play or brings them just to show me
LOVES other kids, that’s when he gets excited and toe walks for a couple of seconds and screeches! It’s like he wants to join in and communicate with them but he can’t yet
understands a lot and follows instructions well, like get your shoes, bring me a book, brush your teeth etc
good eye contact
very affectionate and sociable
gets excited when people come to see him and he runs to them for a cuddle
great sleeper and eater and enjoys feeding us
claps, high fives, plays peekaboo himself, blows kisses and gives people kisses/cuddles when asked. still working on bye bye, he understands the gesture as he gets upset when people leave but he can’t execute the waving yet
dances to music
plays with his brother, they love play fighting together!
my Other son is 5 and is very bright for his age and very very loud so I wonder if that’s what is stopping my youngest to talk!?
my gut feeling is that he is fine however I suppose because he has always been a slow developer it has worried me!
has anyone else’s 2 year old been similar? I’m sure they will refer him to speech therapy soon but I’m hoping the speech will just start spontaneously
Thank you
