18 Month old dd has suddenly got very clingy - v v clingy - is this normal and just a phase?

My dd has suddenly gone all clingy and goes in to hysterics when being dropped off at nursery or my mums etc, but she is also going loopy when we pick her up from my mums (grandma)and take her home. She cries all the way - even though she is with her mum and dad she wants to be with my mum (grandma)what is going on and is it just a phase??? x

I think it is just a phase yes. My DD doesn't go to nursery, but when she was 18months she developed this clingy nature with DH. She didn't want anything to do with me or my parents or PIL (we went to visit them in SA for the 2nd time - my mother said she's going to post DH back to the UK!)

luckily now after 2 months she is back to her old self!

I think its just a phase - at least hoping it is, DS 17 months and wanting to be permanently on my hip/lap/leg, hoping he grows out of it over next 3 months as LO arrives beginning April. We dont to the hysterics at being dropped of as mum is the only one who looks after him and thankfully she is adored.

Im ignoring as much as i can just hoping that will encourage him to stop/reduce the behaviour.

Thanks for the replys - when i drop her off at mums she is fine, its really just nursery that is the problem (dropping off wise) but when i go to pick her up from my mums she has a complete hysterical fit. She is truly upset about being taken away from my mum by me, her mum!! Feel like the bad mummy at the mo.

Dont feel bad these kids r just fickle, Im sure you will be the best thing since sliced bread again in a few weeks.

I have just had a phase of this (DS 17 months). Nursery was the main problem - but he started to do it whenever either me or DH looked as if we were going out. He usually loves nursery - eats more there, loves all the staff etc. After a couple of weeks it seems to have died down a lot - so I would say definitely a phase. Some days are a little worse than others - but nothing like it was. I just kept going - but know exactly what you mean about feeling bad!

I'm glad I found this thread. My DS is 19 months and so clingy. Dropping him off at nursery isn't a problem (he goes 1 day a week) it's when he's with me he begs to be picked up and if I crouch down to his level he clings round my neck and often pulls me over. I love the cuddles but I sometimes wonder if I shouldn't give in to him incase i'm encouraging this behaviour. Also he get's jealous if I give another child attention or if DH so much as sits next to me on the sofa. I'm hoping it's a phase and will pass...

my ds went through several of these phases when he was about 12mths 18 mths 2 and just got over another one 2.7

its nothing were doing wrong its just a phase they go through make sure you keep it relaxed and dont let him see it bothers you as this unsettles them and they do grow out of it and then into it again lol
