hello, new mumsnetter here. my lovely dd 2.5 fairly recently promoted to sitting at table without highchair just doesn't want to settle with us even after just a minute and will start the annoying stuff like eating ds's food, our food, throwing walking around - anything really except sitting and eating. We've been flexible- seeing how it pans out but it s frustrating for all. Tonight I made dd sit on the floor for 2 mins because of some related things (can't even remember what) and it calmed her for alittle while. I spose its so different to Ds (5) who just was happy to join in and sit with us enjyoing his food and chatting. any ideas /comments please.

Hi welcome to MN

I think I would stick to what you started last night, if she can't sit and eat in the way you would like her to then she sits in somewhere designated for time out for a couple of minutes until she is ready to return to the table. And LOTS of praise for when she is sitting/eating

It may take a few nights for her to get used to but I did it with my dd at that age and it did make a difference

x

hello mintchips thanks for words of encouragement - we'll keep trying. Just realised said dD was 2.5 and she's not she's 2 and 2mths obviously said that because she's 2 going on 22!! I don't think that makes that much difference with DD tho but could be wrong. x
