My son is 6 and has sever autism and sever global developmental delay. I have asked his doctors and they Say it’s too early to tell how he will be when he gets older.
so to anyone who’s child has autism but is now older, what’s it like having an adult child with autism? At what age were they when you knew how they would be as they got older?

You say your son has severe autism, but it isn't so easy for strangers on the internet to know what you mean by that. One way to think about it that may be helpful in terms perhaps of giving you hope is that Autism effects what is easy and what is hard much more than what is possible.

Trends including wfh and increased social and professional communication through computers give more ability for Autistic people to interact non verbally or limit and control their environment. 6 is too early to know exactly how independent he'll end up, but I would work on the assumption that he'll grow up get a job, get a place to live etc. Just maybe on his own timetable, a delay as in doing a year or 3 after some kids might've. and some of it sure he might need some additional support. But you'll figure that out as you go along

@PinkBump2022 have you found the SN section yet? It may help to speak to some other parents of DC with ASD and there are some really helpful ones in there Flowers
